IC INFORMATION

Character Name: Morgana Pendragon
Canon: Merlin (BBC)
Canon Point: Season 5, Episode 2, after being stabbed by Mordred
Age: Mid 20's
Background: link

Arrival Scenario: Solvunn

Suitability: Morgana is no stranger to lands engulfed in war and struggles in the clashing of magic and technology. Raised in the kingdom of Camelot as ward of the king, she began as a peace-caring lady of nobility who witnessed corruption firsthand as it twisted her from the inside out, until the kind young girl was gone, replaced with a witch who would only seek out the destruction and death of her enemies, including those she had once seen as friend and family.

With her prior experiences, she has proven to be someone who isn't prone to standing by and her actions in Abraxas will be guided heavily by her own beliefs, wishing for the dominance of magic upon the land while aiming to dethrone those who use their powers in ways she finds distasteful. Having failed her personal goals in Camelot, she will see this as an opportunity to strengthen herself, studying new forms of magic in a land that's foreign to her, becoming acquainted with others who might teach her their own capable skill, while constantly ready to betray them at any given moment if they prove threatening or useless to her motives.

Though her intentions will entirely depend on how the plots move along, Morgana will be keen to use the events to her own advantage, aiding in missions that could benefit her while just as easily disrupting those that don't. Her skills rely heavily on lies and manipulation, and she'll be intent on making the most of it as she explores this new world, likely aiming to scale up her own status in order to shape the world as she wishes it (even if things aren't likely to steer her way).

While Solvunn isn't exactly the central location to climb ranks of power, the farmland proving to be a counter to her own intentional goals, it does allow Morgana to start back at the roots, reminded of a time when she did wish to have a quieter life where she could practice magic with freedom. Between the conflict of the factions and the smaller expanse of her new home, it'll allow her a multitude of options to either continue to be twisted by her hunger for power or rediscover how to use her magic for good, allowing her unlimited potential for how she'll grow and contribute to the game's future.

Powers: In the universe of Merlin, magic is known to be quite the powerful supernatural force. Though most anyone is capable of learning magic through years of study and practice, everyone varies in their affinity for its use and some, such as Morgana herself, are even born with the natural capabilities of performing it without prior study. Morgana's status as a High Priestess of the Old Religion (the faith which follows the practice of magic) also showcases her high skill. Though magic can be nearly limitless in its potential, there are different variations of its use and specifically what kind Morgana can perform, as outlined below:

SEER MAGIC: One of Morgana's more unique abilities is the gift of prophecy, which she has been capable of since birth. Quite often, when she sleeps, her dreams will consist of vague images of the future, often shown in flashes of moments or brief scenes, only granting a glimpse of the future which can often lead to little understanding of what is actually seen. These dreams cannot be sought out purposely and happen without control. How far into the future she sees can vary, and most often, the dreams foretell events occurring sometime in the following days, but on rare occasions, give glimpses forward in months or years.

Added Nerfs: Morgana's "nightmares" (as she often believes her visions to be) are common occurrences for her in her canon, but can be limited in game. For one, these prophecies can be specifically opt-in with CR, as a way to foretell specifically planned threads with consent or, if allowed, can be occasional requests to the mods for event purposes. She can also continue to have dreams of events happening in canon ahead of her canon point, rather than in the game. Otherwise, for simplicity's sake, Morgana can more often simply forget her dreams upon waking so that she isn't able to recall the prophecies.

DARK MAGIC: Though magic itself is considered to be neutral, this branch of magic is specifically aimed towards murdering, tormenting, or controlling other living beings. Due to her personal journey of revenge, Morgana becomes well practiced with the use of these spells. Some of the most notable examples are listed below:

β™• ANIMAL CONTROL SPELLS β€” These are enchantments that influence or direct the behavior of animals or creatures of magic. Along with summoning magical creatures from the ether, Morgana has enchanted wolves and snakes to attack enemies, as well as directed ravens to carry messages to others in far locations. β†’ Added Nerfs: Morgana will not be able to summon any magical creatures and be limited to influencing only one animal at a time, its size also no bigger than a standard wolf.

β™• LOVE SPELLS β€” Morgana is capable of enchanting objects to make the holder fall in love with either the caster or a person of their choosing. The spell is either broken by the caster or a kiss from the victim's true love. β†’ Added Nerfs: This spell will likely not see common use, other than an opt-in of a player or players wishing to enact it (with consent of all parties involved).

β™• NECROMANCY β€” Morgana has achieved various ways of bringing back the dead, in various forms, either as a mere skeleton form or as a Shade (a mere shadow of the mortal self in the original body). However, she cannot do so without different objects to achieve it, such as the Rowan Staff, the Cup of Life, or the Coin of Necromancy.

β™• POPPET ENCHANTMENTS β€” Enchantments can be conjured on poppets (dolls constructed in the likeness of a person) in order to curse or kill the person it represents. On occasion, these have been used to drain a person's life energy or prevent a person from accessing their own magic, often by either stabbing or burning the doll. β†’ Added Nerfs: The spell that instantly kills a person will be completely removed. Otherwise, the poppet will need to be used within close range of the person to achieve the desired curse.

β™• RAGAID β€” This is a form of punishment used by High Priestesses which symbolizes their declaration of war, where a disfigurement of the face caused by a spell forces the skin to grow across the victim's face until they suffocate.

ELEMENTAL MAGIC: This form of magic is used to manipulate the four base aspects of the natural world: fire, water, earth, and air. Morgana's strongest affinity is with fire, capable of lighting candles or torches and even summoning walls of fire as a shield. She is also well capable of using spells that manipulate air, often summoning a powerful force that can throw and toss its victims, as well as strangling victims by choking the air from their bodies. A subspell for air manipulation is the summoning of lightning, which Morgana has used to strike at five men at once.

OTHER MAGIC: As there are nearly limitless forms of magic and its types, many of which Morgana is capable of, hand-picked relevant ones will be listed below:

β™• AGEING β€” This is the casting of a spell which allows herself to bear the appearance of an old woman. While it strengthens the caster's magic strength, it weakens their physical strength, so while Morgana can maintain this form for long periods of time, it greatly exhausts her body, causing her to suffer spasms of pain.

β™• GLAMOURS β€” Morgana can alter the appearance of a person or object. This is not a true physical transformation but rather an illusion, and the person or object's true appearance can be seen through a mirror. β†’ Added Nerfs: Glamours can last no longer than several hours.

β™• HEALING β€” Morgana is capable of healing minor wounds, though she is not as skilled since her mastery of magic leans towards that which harms rather than cures.

β™• POTIONS β€” Morgana is quite knowledgeable in mixing potions of various effects, some which can cause someone to lose their sanity, see hallucinations, track persons, and other various purposes such as poisons or antidotes.

β™• SHIELDS β€” Morgana can cast invisible energies to perform as shields which can block away magic spells and weapons. The strength of the shield entirely depends on the strength of the offense, as Morgana has been shown incapable of blocking away magic that is stronger than her own.

β™• TELEPATHY β€” Morgana can transmit her voice into another person's mind without speaking out loud or being in direct earshot of them. This power does not read minds and it cannot be used with anyone who is completely incapable of magic.

β™• TELEKINESIS β€” Morgana can manipulate the movement of objects and persons with her mind, most notably by making objects levitate on their own. β†’ Added Nerfs: She would be limited by an object or person's weight and size; the larger the more difficult it is to move or lift.

β™• TELEPORTATION β€” Morgana can make use of a teleportation spell to transport herself or an object from one location to another. β†’ Added Nerfs: Morgana would have a limited range of how far she can teleport and she can only move to places that either she has been before or is in visible range.

β™• UNLOCKING β€” Morgana is capable of locking or unlocking doors, locks, or containers with enchantments. β†’ Added Nerfs: The spell would be useless against anything the game itself does not wish to have unlocked.

PERSONALITY QUESTIONS

Describe an important event in your character's life and how it impacted them. As Morgana gradually discovered she was capable of magic, she had various experiences of struggle in how to process this. As a ward of the king who had outlawed magic in Camelot, she worried on how this might reflect upon those she cared about most and whether she could truly go about living under Uther's rule. But it wasn't until she had been poisoned by Merlin, who believed her death was the only way to save the kingdom from a curse, that she finally understood the resolve that she would have moving forward.

After years of having prophetic dreams that she'd been told were merely nightmares, Morgana had eventually found trust in Merlin, the first person she could truly tell that she had magic, believing that he had her best interests at heart in trying to protect her despite the danger of her secret. When she discovers his betrayal and his willingness to kill her, it is then that she finally sees that the people she had loved most would only be faithful to Uther and his anti-magic law, and chooses instead to only align herself with those like herself, deciding to rid the kingdom of those who would kill her kind and proclaim the throne under a new rule with her as queen.

It is at this very moment that the kind and nurturing side of Morgana dies away, no longer protective of the innocent if they aren't of magic like herself, instead turning to manipulative tactics to get what she wants rather than relying on fairness and honesty. Because if she's disposable, why should she go about caring for those who would just as easily toss her away? With that mindset, corruption within Morgana only grows stronger, as if the poison that she'd drank that day had truly twisted her within, killing not her body but all that was good, leaving behind a dark husk. From then on, she never turns back to what was, sparing no sympathy as she seeks to kill her old allies.

Does your character have a moral code, or other set of standards they try to live by? There had been a time, long ago, that Morgana had a more righteous set of morals, eager to protect the innocent, a contrast to the king who had posed a very strict policy to kill anyone who disobeyed the laws he had set in place. She had especially been protective of children, going to great lengths to risk her own life to see that they go unharmed. Eventually, however, when corruption and betrayal had twisted her mind, the same woman would smile as she gave orders to take away the food of villagers to force them to either follow her rule or let their children starve.

Though her eventual intentions are for the sake of allowing freedom of magic, Morgana's care for others is set aside completely in favor of simply obtaining revenge and claiming her throne, willing to hurt any and all who get in the way of her goals. Her motivation is soon an obsession as she's driven mad with the need and desire to kill Arthur, believing him to be just as wicked of a king as his father. She even has a willingness to kill Gwen, Arthur's wife and queen who had once been her maidservant and best friend, despite the woman never once doing anything to directly hurt her. It is merely by association that Morgana wishes her dead, and it is that standard that she begins to carry as she vows to kill anyone who remains loyal to Arthur, whether they've committed a personal offense to her or not.

What quality or qualities do they admire most? Though Morgana's perspectives towards the world and people around her have changed drastically over the course of her experiences, the one consistency is her admiration for a sense of freedom and, even more specifically, the freedom to be one's own self. Being the king's ward, she had been entrapped by a set of rules and obligations, forced to be obey and present herself a certain way, but all she'd ever desired was the chance to make her own choices. In discovering her capabilities of magic, she knew that confessing her true identity public would only have her killed. And so, once, she'd made the decision to run away from the kingdom so that she could live with the Druids, a group of magic users that lived more like nomads in the forests, admiring their freedom to journey for a place to live peacefully. It is amongst them that she had been told she was brave for her choices, to which she'd replied, "I don't want to be brave. I just want to be myself."

Even as her motivations and goals changed in time, choosing to steal the throne of Camelot rather than try to run from it, the core of her desire never truly changed. Though she now sought out power, her reason for it remained that it was the only way that she could earn freedom, that the law of the land would never allow her to be herself as she wanted, and it was only in becoming queen and changing it for herself, that she could ever truly achieve the thing she wanted most, that which she despised Arthur and her old friends for having, jealousy growing out of her admiration of it β€” the ability to be free.

Do they have a part of themselves they dislike? What Morgana dreads most in herself is any lingering self-doubt. For all the years that she spent wondering about herself and her abilities, she'd always held back, swallowing back the itch that desired to learn more about the potential magic inside of her, fearful of the danger she'd always been taught it having. After bearing all of the emotional, verbal, and physical abuse from the king, she'd had instances in which she'd wanted to get revenge and kill him once and for all, but she'd hesitated each time, instead choosing to give him chance after chance for him to prove himself capable of being better. With all the choices she'd made in second guessing her own instincts, her losses only grew and her suffering only heightened.

For a long time, she'd made the choice to forgive and to forget, but going forward, Morgana wants to rid herself of those qualities for good. Though her old friends and family have consistently tried to reel her back, she has made sure to swallow down any lingering love she'd had for them, to remind herself that betrayal is all that awaits her. It is that doubt that had ruined her in the past, leaving her vulnerable to be stepped upon until the time came that she'd been poisoned and shown that her worth meant nothing to the people she trusted, thus proving she should have followed her initial instincts from the start. Now, looking to a stronger stubbornness, she'll do all to snuff that part of herself so that she can never be taken advantage of again.

What is their sign, and why? The Tower β€” Morgana had been raised to accept things as they are, to stay quiet and obey, to see magic as the enemy, to uphold the king's word as the law of the land, but she has never been one to actually stand aside and settle with her discomfort. Even before she discovered her own magic and decided on her intent to rule Camelot with a change in its laws, Morgana has always been tied to the need to challenge what she believes to be wrong, standing up against the most strict of laws, even if it means risking her own life. She craves change and, as corruption gets the best of her, she eventually seeks chaos too, most of all, fighting against those who disagree with her and proclaiming revenge on those she believes to have betrayed her, never straying from clutching to her own beliefs.
